I have the opportunity to participate in a NEAS&C visit in Maine next week and I’m excited to report I’ll be observing another middle school in action and learning from teachers from around New England for three days. I am honored to have been selected and feel confident students will continue with the study of the Great Depression in my absence.

Monday, students will learn about Herbert Hoover using a clip from the History Channel series, The Presidents. Additionally, they will complete a non-fiction reading on Hoovervilles.

Tuesday, students will learn about FDR using another clip from The Presidents. They will also be learning about the election of 1933 and designing campaign posters for both Hoover and FDR.

Wednesday, students will complete their campaign posters and watch a US government clip describing FDR’s New Deal programs. When I return, we will analyze the film clip together.

As always, if questions or concerns arise, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be in constant contact with my substitute teacher and will be kept in the loop on the progress of my students.

This Friday, April 19th, a SRMS student will have a public reading at the Water Street Bookstore in Exeter, NH. This student won the writing contest hosted by SRMS and published author, Matthew Dicks. We are hoping students, staff and SRMS families will attend the reading at the bookstore. The event begins at 7pm. See you there!
